The Taxi

The Taxi can take you to all areas in Skagway and Dyea and hold 7 to 13 passengers. This is not to be confused with a Tour. We are a point-to-point transportation. We do not offer private vehicle rides or round trips to the summit which would compete with tours. We will only take reservations for off hours and pickups in Dyea where there is no cell service. Our hours of operations are 8 am to 1am. We do pickups during off hours by reservation only for a one-time charge of $20 plus the fare.

DIY Skagway is not meant to take the place of tours in Skagway but is a great way to experience Skagway before or after your tours. Without living in Skagway it is hard to know all the things to do in town. Inexpensive activities and Free experiences usually can’t afford to advertise their products. Our hope is to help educate visitors on all the things available in town at a reasonable price.

How to

The Smart Bus Shuttle has a stop by the end of all cruise ship docks. Shuttles departs every 15 minutes or less 7am – 9 pm or call (907) 612-0902 for a pickup. Show them your reservation and you will receive a wrist band which will allow you to get on and off the downtown shuttle as you wish as well as a round trip shuttle taxi ride to the Gold Rush Cemetery and 300’ tall Lower Ried Falls. If you sign up on line the list of things to do will be available to you on our website but if you sign up in town you will get your list on our Bus when you get on. The list will give you suggestions on what to do first in order to get set up for experiences that are limited such as the walking tours at the National Park. Now pick the things you want to do and the order you want to do them in. Don’t forget to eat on the ship or in town and have fun.

Gold Rush Cemetery/ Reid Falls

The most amazing and beautiful waterfall in Skagway. History and cool head stones, Reader Boards, and a 10-minute hike through a boreal rain forest to a 300” waterfall with fools’ gold in the river and a bear cave. We pick up at 3rd by the Mascot and 5th by the Trail Center every 30 minutes on busy days and on call on slow days. Pickups are the same so it is best to call and find out when we are going. This is done by the SMART Taxi only and is not part of the all day pass from the Downtown Shuttle.

SMART Downtown Shuttle Bus

The Shuttle starts at one of the 3 Docks in Skagway, the Railroad, Broadway and Ore Docks. The most are well over 1 mile from 7th Ave (the north end of downtown). A lot of folks take the Shuttle from the ship to the beginning (South end) of town and back. I would suggest riding all the way through downtown and then jump on the buses to the other docks. You get to see all the shore line in Skagway and if you are a hiker check out the trails available. You can be picked up and dropped off at both of the trails on our routes.
